Real Estate Q&A

David K. Britt
Treasurer

When are Real Estate Taxes Due?
Real Estate taxes are due December 5th of each year. Supplement bills are due within 30 days of billing.

How is my property assessed?
Assessments are determined by the Commissioner of the Revenue's Office (757) 653-3030.

If I have an escrow account, and received the tax bill, what should I do?
Forward the bill to your mortgage company.

What should I do if I don't receive my bill?
Contact the Treasurer's Office (link to Contact Us) at (757) 653-3025. Virginia law requires that tax bills be mailed at least twp (2) weeks prior to due date. However, if a bill is not delivered on time, the taxpayer is not relieved of the penalty and interest charge required by law for late payment.

What is the Real Estate tax rate?
$.82 per $100.

Who should I contact regarding Real Estate tax information?
Rosemary Horne at rhorne@southamptoncounty.org or Pat Frazier at pfrazier@southamptoncounty.org
